Creating a first-of-its-kind instant mobile wallet for South Africans
Instant wallet app
Financial literacy is a significant challenge in South Africa, particularly among the unbanked population. The goal of this project was to develop an instant mobile wallet specifically targeting students in South Africa. The mobile wallet aimed to help students establish their financial banking footprint and teach them essential banking skills. To achieve this, the students are encouraged to join their school's group within the mobile wallet. This creates a safe "school" environment where they could learn financial skills and become familiar with mobile banking. The wallet provided basic functionality, allowing students to send and receive money and top up their wallet account. The client's requirement was to design a colourful app, considering that the target audience was students. Internal testing sessions revealed that students preferred a fun and vibrant app experience. In addition to its core functionality, students can use the wallet to add items to their school's swap shop, purchase tickets for school events, and engage in peer-to-peer conversations. One of the key design considerations was to ensure seamless integration with the students' respective bank accounts. This allows them to easily send or receive money from their wallet. By simplifying the process and providing clear instructions, the app ensures that students feel comfortable performing basic transactions. A vibrant and colourful visual language guides navigation and creates excitement. The use of colour-coded elements helps students quickly identify different sections and actions within the app. The instant mobile wallet empowers students to develop essential financial skills while enjoying a fun and interactive mobile banking experience.
